Die Roten cruised to the title in the 1998-99 season, finishing 15 points ahead of Bayer Leverkusen in second. FC Hollywood were unable to crown this season with victory in the Champions League with Manchester United breaking Bavarian hearts in injury time. In the following season, Bayern would reach the Champions League semi-final, knocked out by eventual winners Real Madrid. In domestic competition, the side would be again victorious though with another Bundesliga title win along with an easy 3-0 win in the final of the DFB-Pokal against Werder Bremen.
