Home shirt as worn when Die Roten won the UEFA Cup under club legend Franz Beckenbauer and also were victorious in the Bundesliga in 1996-97 under returning manager Giovanni Trapattoni. Jürgen Klinsmann was signed from Tottenham and was expected to resurrect the fortunes of Bayern, but FC Hollywood could only reach a second-place finish in the Bundesliga under Otto Rehhagel, who was ousted just three weeks before the UEFA Cup final, leaving club legend Beckenbauer with little time to prepare his team to do battle with Bordeaux. Bayern would eventually run out convincing winners with a 5-1 aggregate win. The following season would be one of domestic success, with the side in imperious form picking up 71 points and only losing 3 league games.
